So, I spent several hours this afternoon getting the taxes paid and registration done for my truck. Since I had to get new plates anyway, I decided to go ahead and get the "Nurses Care" plate.
I may regret that decision.
Right after leaving the DMV with the new plate, I headed to get my oil changed. The tech at the shop asks me "How long you been a nurse?" I was like, I don't remember telling him I was a nurse... ah, the plates. *sigh* Well, I'm being polite making small talk, then getting back on my phone surfing the web.. The guy walks up to me, says, "I don't know if you can answer this or not, but can you look at this? [puts hand directly in my face] I've got some kind of rash on my hand, and it started as a small sore here, and now it's red and spreading all over my hand. Can you tell me what this could be?"
Ick. I told him that rashes really weren't my forte, and I couldn't tell him what it was. Seriously. Hadn't had my plate an hour, and I have someone asking me to identify their mystery rash!? If this is what I'm getting into by having a NURSE license plate, I may have it switched sooner rather than later!!

Your rash? Not my forte!

So Not Gay? ... At Least he's Honest!
SC Beaches So Not Gay
Well, my jaw dropped when I read this in Sunday's paper.
But then again, I guess I should give him props for honesty:
SC really is a state full of people that don't like others...
Homophobic, xenophobic, bigots... *sigh*
(This is one of the main reasons I hate this state!)
It was this paragraph that got me the most:
To be fair, South Carolina isn't obsessed with gays;
we simply don't like people who aren't from around here
or don't act or sound like us. In addition to not liking gays,
we despise Hispanics, distrust Jews and aren't too fond of Catholics.
What a friendly place this is, huh?!
If you are unable to read the column, I have
copied the full text of this article here to keep it available
online even after the local paper takes it down.. (they don't
keep things available online very long.) ~

How dumb is it when you buy
your first piece of heavy equipment
and you can't even start it?
Going to take it to the fix-it shop
('cuz now that I'm a homeowner, I got people!)
tomorrow, to see what they can do.
More later.

Disheartened Dater...
Should be sleeping, but brain is racing. Happens when I think too much. My last day at work was the pits, & I've been off for the last 4 days - Now I've gotta work a whole bunch in a row - ickypoo. I'm praying for good times.
So today I've fallen in love with my sweet Elysium dessert wine. Fantabulicious, sweet goodness!! If I knew it'd be this good, I would've opened this bottle ages ago! (KC gave this to me Christmas of '06, I shouldn't admit that, but I did, so there!)
Hmmm... maybe another glass will slow down a speeding mind?
...Returning with my 2nd glass. Better be careful, it goes down so smooth!
So, I was talking with mom today about dating - Told her I'm getting a bit disheartened. Truly, I am. I think it gets a lot more difficult as you get older, becaues you tend to know more of what you want - and are a little more (or a lot more?) inflexible on certain things. These are some of my limits/expectations:
1. Cannot be racist or homophobic in any way. Must be secure in himself enough not to hate.
2. Gotta be able to get dirt under the fingers sometimes. - I'm so over this stereotypical Charlotte metrosexual banker prettyboy male.
3. Can't be a "Namby Pamby" (yes that was my exact words to mom!) Here's what I mean by that: I talked on the phone the other day with a guy that was asking questions about what I do. I said (trying to explain my wound care/vac experience) "You know, do the dressings for people where they've got open wounds you can fit your whole fists in." He nearly threw up while talking to me. It wasn't like I even described it. I can NOT handle someone that freaks out that quickly. (He still probably believes that women don't burp or fart, either??) I told mom, "if after a long crazy day, you can't even tell your boyfriend that you've had your hands in someone's abdomen, what good is he!?"
Jacked up? Whatever. My issues, not yours. Mom said my expectations are good, fair ones. Good. Nice to see I'm not too picky. As for appearance - shrug - don't much care, but gravy if >5'8", if not super skinny, and if wears glasses. (shutup).
I'd read they've done studies that women are far less likey to be happy/ satisfied in relationships if they feel they're smarter than their partner. Hmm. Well, I can see that. Maybe I need to start hitting up the Mensa meetings?
Oh, Lord ... this is one pathetic blog entry!! I should just get another glass of wine & STFU.

Today I am Thankful For

Glory Window - photo by alberto246. click on photo for link.
1. Fresh local peaches.
2. My paid off vehicle. (it's paid off, and runs great: the best kind!)
3. NKOTB coming to Charlotte!!?
4. An earlier epiphany / clarity about friendships 0 that keeps me from vesting too much / getting hurt from one-way drains in my life.
5. My self-worth. I may not be the hottest, sexiest, most svelte thing around - but I knwo how good I am, & I'm sure I'll never allow myself to be treated like crap in a relationship again. I'm special. (Brass in Pocket)
6. Neighbors that care enough to check in!
7. Little bits of nature. Squirrels on your porch, frogs on the window, etc.
8. Glory Window in Dallas, Tx. So beautiful!! I'd love to see it in person, someday!
9. 409 miles to a 20-gallon tank. (You'd say that's nothing to brag about - until you realize that's in a pickup truck!)
10. Silence. peace. solitude... at the end of a day.

Mish-mash
Today I am thankful for:
1. Fresh, sweet fruit.
2. Creamy honey. (I think I may've said this one before, but it's so good, it can get another go-round)
3. My yard-boy
4. Impromptu out to eat Mexican dinners.
5. Mom's anti-soda thing. (I pray for its permanence!)
Searing pain (n.) The feeling you get, when in the deep south, and an ant crawls on your foot. (Evil bastards!)
If it were my world, they'd all be like the ants back home - they eat your food, not you!
And while on the topic: if it were my world, all cord blood would be saved for anyone that needed it! I don't think you should have to PAY to save it & bank it on the off-chance that you may need it later in life. I think it should be available to anyone. After all, most cord blood just gets destroyed. Have donation consents standard procedure, buried in the admission paperwork. Do more GOOD! SAVE LIVES NOW! (Just my opinion.)
"And if I died today, I'd be the happy phantom, and i'd go chasing the nuns out in the yard..."
I'm a nurse. ~ A lot of people ramble about how they separate work from personal life. I don't understand that. At least, not since I've been a nurse? I just don't think it's posible to NOT be one 24/7. I guess it's too ingrained. Kinda like how I can even pick out a cop or a soldier - even off-duty, by their stance? I call myself a "hardcore hospital nurse." I work OB/GYN & Med-Surg. Heavy on the Med-surg. I'm not easily grossed out. I can have my hands wrist-deep in your abdoment packing a wound, and then 5 minutes later eat a feast.
* I'll talk about poop while eating fudge brownies unfazed.
* I think about the effects of foods or drugs on the body.
* I ask people who chomp on ice if they're anemic.
* I notice your veins.
* I'm constantly thinking, "eew, wash your hands!"

Movie Quotes I Constantly Use
- "I'm right on top of that, Rose!"
- "Dat's wat I said, Booby Twaps!"
- "No more rhyming, now I mean it! Anybody want a peanut?"
- "Ferris Bueller, you're my hero!"
- "Toe Pick!!"
- "No more yanky-my-wanky, the Donger need food!"
- "I'm a good girl, I am!"
Seriously... these are in my everyday vernacular. I say them all the time.
